My reward for helping others through physical therapy is the “feedback” I receive from the satisfied clients. But had it not been for a chance of ‘Rolfing’ session earlier in his career, the former nationally ranked cyclist may never have had the opportunity to realize my life’s calling. At just 21 years old.
In 1967, I won two out of the 3 state championship races before enlisting to serve the country in the Army, where I continued to nurture my passion for cycling as part of the Army team. Six months and one spot short of making the olympic team later, I was ordered to serve in Vietnam from 1968-1969. Upon returning to Michigan, I completed my BA in Social Science at Michigan State University.
Fast forward to 1973, and I could still be found very involved in bicycling, both as a coach of The Oakland Velo Team, and as a racer. I was also very busy managing my own bike shop in Rochester, MI.
But as busy as this nationally ranked rider was, I took a friend’s suggestion to try a “Rolfing” session in order to improve on my performance. At that level, I always say, a few percentage points can make all the difference in the outcome of a race.
I won the state championships 13 times. And I was second in the national championships twice. Two times I came in Third. So the Rolfing really boosted my performance on the bike in that sense.
It wasn’t long til I decided to expand my bike-shop Rolfing to a more formal setting. But in order to do that, I knew I needed to go back to school. By 1995, I had not only completed my basic physical therapy requirements, but also completed my Master’s in Physical Therapy. At just 50-years-young, I was again, a college grad.
From there, I worked for three years at Providence Hospital before starting my own practice in 1998. Neil King Physical Therapy moved to its current location in 2005.
My most rewarding moments come when working on patients who have tried to seek treatment elsewhere. At Neil King Physical Therapy, his patients are made to feel welcomed

Meet Molly! Molly is happy to be a part of the Neil King Physical Therapy family! She received her BS in Kinesiology with a focus in Adaptive Physical Activity from Michigan State University and went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Western Michigan University in 2023. Growing up, Molly was an avid athlete whose primary focus was in dance. She danced competitively from elementary school up through high school and was a varsity athlete for springboard diving and downhill ski racing (in addition to band!) Staying active earned Molly a few trips to the physical therapist which initially peaked her interest in the profession. After graduating from Michigan State, Molly worked as a respite care provider for children with disabilities which guided her decision to specialize in pediatrics as a physical therapist. To date, Molly has received her Level A in DMI, her Level 1 certification in Pediatric Bowel and Bladder Dysfunction, and has taken numerous continuing education courses for treatment of torticollis, primitive reflex integration, and delayed motor milestones. When she’s not at work, Molly enjoys spending time with her fiance and 2 dogs, hiking, traveling, cooking, drawing, and taking on DIY projects around the house!

“As a competitive gymnast, dancer, and cheerleader, I had long been passionate about physical fitness, and understanding human movement. While participating in these activities, I had experienced a number of overuse and acute injuries requiring visits to the orthopedic physician’s office. I was fascinated by my doctor’s knowledge of the body and how to “fix it”, inspiring me to pursue the field of orthopedics. As I learned more about a variety of medical professions during a highschool class, I felt a career in physical therapy would be a great fit. I have realized along the way there is so much to this field than I had imagined, and I love the constant learning and numerous ways I can impact my patients lives.”

Why I chose this profession: I chose to work in the Physical Therapy field after needing Physical Therapy myself due to a shoulder injury while swimming in high school. I grew up playing all kinds of sports and became interested in physical therapy when I had an elbow injury and had great recovery experience. I started in health care working at a local hospital and was first introduced to Neil King Physical Therapy as a PTA student. I enjoyed the compassionate and detailed care that the NKPT staff approached skilled therapy and wanted to join the team, which I did in June of 2022. I was able to use my extensive background in sports, along with my tertiary education to help my athlete patients get back to the sports they love. He grew up playing baseball, golf, and running cross country and I continue to play golf and roller hockey to this day. I love to work with all types of patient populations because I enjoy the variety and the challenge of treating different diagnoses. I believe in the importance of exercise and how it can achieve his patients’ goal of reducing their pain.

Claire eventually ended up working at a PT clinic as a PT technician and soon applied to Macomb Community College’s PTA program. Claire graduated from Macomb Community College with her Associates in Applied Science in spring of 2024. Due to previous experience during a clinical rotation, Claire was referred to return to Neil King to work as a PTA. Claire started working for Neil King in summer of 2024 following the passing of her boards exam. Neil King’s company stuck out to her by their patient-focused regimen and the dedication provided to each patient.
